Why Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a safe, effective form of healthcare without the use of drugs or surgery. Chiropractors recognize that the nervous system (brain, spinal cord and nerves) controls every muscle, organ and function of the human body. The brain is the body’s master computer and is protected by the skull. The spinal cord is an extension of the brain and is protected by the spine.
The spine is made up of 24 moveable segments called vertebrae. Nerves branch off of the spinal cord, exit between these vertebrae and extend to all of our muscles and organs. The nerves relay the impulses from the brain, so the muscles and organs function normally. However, the movable vertebrae can misalign with one another and cause pressure on the nerves as they exit the spine. This is called a subluxation. This is what you may think of as a “pinched nerve”.
Subluxations are not only painful, but they can affect the function of any muscle or organ that the nerve leads to. Subluxations also cause stress on the joints and the disc and can cause degenerative changes or wear and tear. Subluxations can occur during injuries, such as lifting a heavy box, falling down or car accidents. They can also occur by performing repetitive movements that cause damage over time. Chiropractors locate and correct subluxations by adjusting or manipulating the vertebrae to their proper position removing the pressure off of the nerve. Thus allowing the body to heal itself.
Chiropractic also focuses on the alignment and proper movement of your extremity joints which are:
* Shoulder * Hip * Elbow * Wrists * Hands * Knee * Ankle * Foot
Chiropractors can adjust the extremity joints to improve the alignment, restore normal range of motion and reduce joint pain.
